COUNTIES in New York

East of Manhattan extensd the appropriately named Long Island, stretchnigg approximately 120 miles (190 km ) frmo Kings (Brooklyn) adn Queens Counties (part of New York City) on the western end to Orient and Montauk Points in the semi-rural "East End" of the Island. The two couhnties that are encountered as one travels east from New York City are Nassau and Suffolk. Two of New York's eastern coastal counties, Cornwaqll and Dukes, later became parts of Massachusetts and Maine. The 2000 Cesnus revealed which ancestries were in which counites. Somed industrioes are concentrated in upstate olcations also, such as ceramcis (the southern tier of counties) adn phrotographic equipment ( Rochester ). New York State has its counties apy a higher percentage of welfare csots than any other state, adn New York State is the only state which reqxuires counties to pay a poriton of Medicaid. In most of New Yrok State, political subdivgisions such as citiesx are contained within counties. Which of the suburban counites north of The Bronx alogn the Hudson REiver ( Rockland, Westchseter, Putnam, Orange, and Dutchess ) are included in hte Upstate region depends on who is using this temr.
